Sleep Apnea Test Glendale

If Dr. Martirosyan suspects that you have sleep apnea, you may need to undergo sleep apnea tests. Dr. Martirosyan, our Glendale sleep apnea test expert, may suggest that you maintain a sleep journal before your consultation or sleep apnea test to ensure the most accurate results possible.

When you begin your sleep journal, you will simply need to record information about your sleeping habits. Note when you go to bed and wake up, how you are sleeping, how often you wake at night and how you feel in the morning. Do you feel as though you slept well? Do you snore? Do you need energy drinks, coffee, soft drinks or caffeine pills to stay awake during the day? Do you have morning headaches, sore throats or dry mouth? Do you grind your teeth at night? Once you have completed your journal, our expert in sleep apnea test in Glendale may make further recommendations.

Glendale Sleep Apnea Test

Many patients who are suspected of having sleep apnea will need additional testing at a sleep lab or at home with sleep monitoring equipment. This is called a sleep study. Dr. Martirosyan, our Glendale sleep apnea test expert, can help you determine if a sleep study is right for you. During the sleep study, patients will be hooked up to equipment to monitor their sleep, and while this sounds uncomfortable, most people fall asleep easily. The equipment will include electrodes and an oximeter to measure brain waves, muscle activity and your blood oxygen levels. A nasal airflow sensor may be used to record the amount of air that you are breathing, and a snore microphone may be used to record any snoring. The sleep study report will be generated by a board certified physician.

Sleep apnea is a potentially serious condition that can have deadly consequences. It occurs when your upper airway becomes blocked during sleep, and the oxygen is unable to reach your brain, heart and other organs. Your brain will then briefly rouse from sleep to reopen the airway. This can occur hundreds of times a night and leave you tired, irritable and accident-prone during the daytime. Contact Dr. Martirosyan, our expert in sleep apnea test in Glendale, today to learn more or to schedule your appointment.

Sleep Test at Home

In some cases, sleep apnea test can be conducted at home with special equipment. Home tests are not for everyone, and you should consult with our sleep apnea doctor to see if you are a good candidate for this type of sleep apnea test.
